What's happening at the Mill
Our new training centre at Selgars Mill supports communities to create new responses to a range of crises, from the decline of the high street to the impacts of climate change, from youth unemployment to food insecurity. Our programmes are developed with a site-wide approach, using as much of the buildings and surroundings to create valuable educational and cultural experiences.

We have postponed the official opening of the site to Spring 2021, but in the meantime we have used the opportunity to craft an online programme BeyondHERE, a six week webinar series connecting UK communities with inspiring international projects in other parts of the world.

Collective Courage: Co-operatives and the Black Economy
9 - 11 April 2021
This three-day residential will explore African American co-operative history, reconstructing African American history and civil rights activity through retelling the stories of the Black co-operative movement for economic justice.

Jessica Gordon-Nembhard will make connections to the efforts of Black-led groups in the UK and Europe, looking at the similarities in conditions and strategies.
Join Selgars Mill's first Origin Club: Supper & Stories with Aardman Animations' cofounder David Sproxton. During an evening of vegetarian small plates from Kit & Kee, we’ll explore the early days of Aardman Animations, the stepping stones to Hollywood, the future of the creative industries in the UK, and the recent employee buyout of this world-famous studio.

To enable social distancing, bookings are per table starting from £100 for a 4-person table.
Employee ownership has been around for many years with names like John Lewis and Scott Barder. The sector has seen real growth in recent years driven by a resurgence of values-led entrepreneurs with the 2014 finance act removing the disincentive for owners to sell their businesses into the ‘trust’ of their employees. Recent converts have included Riverford Organics, Aardman Animation, and Richer Sounds.
This 3-day course will give help plan your next steps.
