We’re back! The Playground for the New Economy Festival is returning for its third year!
This time we are at our very own venue: the New Economy Centre at Selgars Mill. Join us to be challenged and inspired during a unique three days of provocative conversations, live podcasts, interactive workshops, idea surgeries, sustainable food, woodfired sauna, games, craft beer, and, of course, live music!

Employee ownership has been around for many years with names like John Lewis and Scott Barder. The sector has seen real growth in recent years driven by a resurgence of values-led entrepreneurs with the 2014 finance act removing the disincentive for owners to sell their businesses into the ‘trust’ of their employees. Recent converts have included Riverford Organics, Aardman Animation, and Richer Sounds. This 3-day course will give help plan your next steps.

During an evening of vegetarian small plates from Kit & Kee, we’ll explore the early days of Aardman Animations, the stepping stones to Hollywood, the future of the creative industries in the UK, and the recent employee buyout of this world-famous studio.

Collective Courage: Co-operatives and the Black Economy

This three-day residential will explore African American co-operative history, reconstructing African American history and civil rights activity through retelling the stories of the Black co-operative movement for economic justice.

Jessica Gordon-Nembhard will make connections to the efforts of Black-led groups in the UK and Europe, looking at the similarities in conditions and strategies.
