New Economy Centre Assistant Manger
We are looking to build our on-campus team at the New Economy Centre. Roles at Selgars Mill serve two specific functions: to grow the business in line with our principles and values, and to be a welcoming and hospitable host for people as they come to the space.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly small team and live on our beautiful eight-acre campus in Devon (with four-acres of woodland, millpond and surrounding waterways, permaculture gardens, and meadows).
The New Economy Centre at Selgars Mill is a training campus and events venue in Mid Devon set up by Stir to Action. The Centre’s primary function is to serve as a space for individuals and organisations to build the democratic economy, through courses and events. Learn more about our story here.
The Role: Live-in Assistant Centre Manager
We're offering a fixed term position for 1 year in the first instance with the prospect of continuing on a permanent contract. Accommodation is included with the role. We have a full-site vegetarian policy which also applies to staff. We are accepting Expressions of Interest from people who do not wish to make this a live-in role, but there will still be a requirement to stay on campus several times each year.
Hours per week: 20
Salary: from £19 to £22k FTE depending on experience (before deduction of £7560 for accommodation for the year).
Accommodation: The live-in role includes accommodation. Council tax, utilities and WiFi are all included.
This opportunity is designed for one person or a couple to live in a small annex adjoining the Mill House. It is a beautiful, unique small home with under floor heating, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and bath and parking for up to two vehicles. As it adjoins the Mill House there can be noise disruption from guests so it would suit someone who can tolerate background noise close by.
You’ll work in a dynamic small team to expand the reach and reputation of the New Economy Centre and grow the business in line with our principles and values. This role is diverse in its nature so no two days are the same. We are looking for someone who loves being customer facing, is familiar with hosting and organising events and guest experiences and is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that visitors have the best experience possible.
Your work hours will be flexible and align with event bookings, guest demands and the wider team capacity. You will report to the live-in Site and Centre Manager.
The successful applicant(s) will begin a one-year members’ journey/probationary period after which they will be invited to join the New Economy Centre as a member/owner of the business, subject to the satisfactory fulfilment of the role.
